HARI RAYA 1429H

After non-daylight food, Muslim throughout the world now back to normal after performing fasting in the month of Ramadhan. In BruneHari Raya was on Thursday (new moon was not sighted) while Malaysia celebrated on Wednesday.

Malaysia celebrated Hariraya 1429H one day earlier than Brunei. I and family travelled to Sabah on Tuesday 30th Sept in time for the Wednesday family gathering. (Hariraya and family open house) I prayed Sembahyang Hari Raya in this small town Kuala Penyu mosque situated on a hill at the centre of the township.

The customary after Aidilfitri prayer. Greeting and asking for forgiveness. My son Ikram asking restu and forgiveness from nininya. (my father in law)

Nah sori saja, no more seat. They've to sit on the floor. Everybody took their own choice of food.

C Aziz, volunteer menyalai satay; working from 10.30 am to late afternoon. We have kakitangan from members of families to arrange food on the table. But kasihan amah-amah, (three of them) non stop washing dishes. People coming bertali arus on the first day of Hariraya which was also open house day from our family di Kampung Jankit Kuala Penyu.

Satay, the favourite food. Beside satay we had other menu. My brother in law slaughtered one kerbau. So we've rendang, kari tulang bidai-bidai, sop tulang, soto - makan with kelupis, ketupat and kueh brought by sisters in laws

Time for photograph; the four generations of my brother Haji Sablee. (seated on chair) The sons and daughters married ethnics of Malaysia; the Brunei, Rungus, Kadazan, Bajau, Jawa, Dusun, Kedah.. and so forth. All scattered in Malaysia and Brunei. They meet on this such occasion, Hariraya . He has 12 children. The cucu and cicit ? U tell me.

The children are the happiest during hariraya. During my childhood we had bungapi tangkai dawai and badil buluh. Nowdays the spranklers are so sofisticated. They need lounchers.

Bunga api as high as a coconut tree. U need some knowledge to launch them. Need a bigger space and money to buy it. Why spend money on it ? Of course, the satisfaction.
Hari Raya Aidilfitri also Hari Raya Puasa, is the Malay term for the Muslim festival of Eid ul Fitr. The term Hari Raya literally means Day of Celebration. The main greeting used by Muslims is "Selamat Hari Raya" which means "Happy Eid" in Malay. Another greeting is "maaf zahir dan batin" which translates loosely to "I seek forgiveness (from you) physically and spiritually", for Hari Raya is a time to reconcile and renew.
It is customary for Brunei Malays to wear traditional Malay costumes. The dress for men is baju Melayu with samping and songkok while the women's are known as baju kurung. Baju kurung are now had updated fashion with “katuk”. Eid prayer is in the morning. After prayer the jemaah take the chance to meet and greet each other. Muslims in Brunei visit the grave of their loved ones and perform the recital of the Yasin — a chapter (surah) from the Qur'an and also the tahlil or prayers for the deceased. All these are done in hope that their loved are blessed by Allah.
